From School Library Journal

Gr 7 Up—In this modern-day fantasy, privileged New York teen Lily escapes the pressure from her parents and false friends by seeking refuge in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. On the first day of her spring break, she meets Amon, an Egyptian prince, who was mummified, yet rises once every millennia to reawaken his brothers and perform a ceremony to maintain the sun, moon, and the stars aligned and to keep the God of Chaos, Seth, away for another 1,000 years. Lily helps Amon navigate New York City, and he educates her about his past and the rituals of his native land. Together they travel to Egypt with the hope of achieving his immortality once again. Lily is a very self-aware heroine, who feels like an outcast except when she meets the resurrected royal. Amon is a mystery, a man of power and knowledge, and Lily stereotypically falls for him and can't help getting involved in helping him in his quest. The pacing of the story is even, with exciting culminating battle scenes. Rick Riordan fans who are looking for another series will delight in this fantasy. VERDICT An incredibly well-researched novel with an air of mystery and romance.—Stephanie DeVincentis, Downers Grove North High School, IL

I found the female protagonist weak and annoying. I really hope she gets written better in the later books. I see a common theme of the male protagonist doing huge sacrificial acts for the lady in Colleen's book (usually physically painful ones) while the female is protected and fine.I liked the story line and theme, but the main girl had a weak character. Some points to why I didn't like her:1. She didn't choose to do any of the things that happened in the book - she was either pushed to do it or just found herself in the situation. She didn't have any resolve or gumption.2. She was very self absorbed - I know I know she's still a teen but she's acting too immature for her character (the author I feel was writing her as a person more mature for her age but instead I felt she was acting her age - just absorbed in all the teenage angst of "this is how I feel".)3. She was written as a person who seemed intelligent but a lot of the things she said and did was pretty dumb. For instance she likes going to the museum and library, very book smart but she needed to be told some of the most basic Egyptian mythology that anyone who liked going to the museum and library should already know (like I knew some of the things that she needed to be told when I was in year 6).4. She didn't have a very strong personality - she was a very ordinary, privileged US teenage girl who was put into an amazing journey and I felt that she could have grown more at the end but I think my expectations were too high. With all that said I still enjoyed the book and I will be reading her next books because I want to know how it all ends. I really liked how Kelsey was written for the Tiger's Curse so I was a little disappointed when this new girl kind of came off as a "Bella Swan".

Ok so here's the thing-I absolutely loved the Tigers Curse series... A little dramatic but the story line was pretty cool and intriguing. But reading this was like reading the other ones all over again except it was written WAY worse and the names and settings were just switched out. Ok I was expecting something at least a little more creative... I just thought since it was her second series it would be even better, but Nooo! I don't even understand how that is possible. And the characters in this one are EXTREMELY annoying and unrealistic. Where it took me a few days to read the entire Tiger's Curse series, it took me over a year of fighting to get through this one... Would not recommend.

I honestly loved every minute of this story!! I have always loved Egyptian mythology and this book does a great job delving into stories of Egypt. This book renewed my love of Egyptian mythology. The characters are easy to love and connect with and Amon and Lily together are Amon-azing. The way the author describes every little details makes it easy to forget you're reading a book, I was pulled right into the story line and felt every emotion the characters were feeling. I was continuously left on the edge on my seat cushion while reading all the different obstacles the group overcomes. The author does a great job tying up all the ends that I have a hard time imagining where the story will go next, but as long as Amon and Lily are together I'll be happy!! I loved reading the Egyptian stories Amon and the other characters tell along their journey and watching Lily grow in into the powerful women she never realized she wanted to be. I was left with a feeling of euphoria after finishing the story and can't wait to read more when the second book, Recreated, is released this August.

Is it just me, or is it the same exact story line as the tigers curse?....Girl meets antient boy and has crush, girl decides to help boy fulfil destiny, girl travels far away with boy to homeland country, girl has long conversation on a plane about the history of the land, girl goes to ancient tombs to uncover clues and experiences booby traps, boy turns into an animal... and I'm on page 180 out of 389... not sure if I will finish....it is same story line, different people.I love the tigers curse saga. Until very recently it has been my favorite series and I have read it 4 times and listened on tape once. I was excited to finally read this book.Update: ok I did decide to finish this book and I have to say the last 1/4 got much better. I changed my 2 star rating to a 4 star rating. I see there is a 2nd book set to come out this summer and I am excited to read it. I do hope the 2nd book continues on in its own story line and stays away from the story line of the tigers curse. The 2nd part sounds interesting and exciting.

'Reawakened' talks shortly of a girl named Lily Young who goes to a natural museum and meets Prince Amon. However, the story was very short instead of being dragged out like how her first book series, 'Tiger Curse' took off in a wild expedition. In 'Reawakened' the main characters said very little to each other, emotionally and physically. I was impressed of the knowledge that Houck shared in this novel, but I was disappointed in how it ended because immediately the two main characters get together, but they've barely known each other. Whereas, in 'Tiger Curse' Kelsey and her beau, got to spend quality time together. I had to give a Houck a two star, out of five rating because of the fact of how the story ended, how the plotline resembled nothing I could relate too as much as I could've. And of course the main bit, that the characters didn't get a chance to really know each other before the story abruptly ended. Houck, hopefully there will be a sequel that will explain all this reasoning.
