I teach a class to help people prepare for the TEAS exam, so I have seen a lot of study guides. None of them are perfect, but most of them are useful to some extent. THIS new review manual put out by ATI is much less user friendly than their old study guide for several reasons- the type is small, the pages are flimsy, there are less practice problems and less practice tests. Also, the language of this new guide is elevated to an academic level that some people will find difficult to understand. And, I have to say, some of this elevated language (especially in the reading section) talks about nothing useful in particular and leaves the reader saying, "Why did you even bother to bring that up?" So, needless to say, I was not thrilled with this new guide. HOWEVER, this guide has a certain STYLE that defines the way the questions are asked on the TEAS. Therefore, I now recommend that my students get this book, specifically because I assume that the people who wrote the guide also wrote the new test. (That could be a bad assumption on my part). Anyway, particularly as it applies to understanding argument, verifying sources, etc., I think the language of the reading section is something that the students must be familiar with in order to answer the questions correctly. No other book I've seen is written with the same style as this guide.As far as math goes, this book does a good job with the new graphing and geometry sections, but a very inadequate job on teaching basic math, algebra, and measurement. Any student who struggles with math will need to find another book (or youtube video) to teach them those concepts. For math, this book can be used as a "final run through" a couple of weeks before the test to be sure you're ready.I believe the grammar section (as well as the reading and math sections) in the old guide is better than this new guide for teaching the basic concepts to people who need instruction. However, the old guide is now inadequate since the new test has added topics that the old study guide doesn't have. Bottom line... use this book for the new math and reading topics, but use the old guide for everything else.
Not much explanations in the book. For example, it often says "Study digestive system. You will find lots of information online."Then, why do we need to buy this book, if we can study through online...????
This book was a waste of money the material in the book had NOTHING to do with the questions on the test not even close.. I spent month's studying with this book just to fail the TEAS.. It is so disappointing because I could've spent my time studying other material that may have been more helpful
I dont know if this book is the legit book from ati because the one I got has a title with wrong spelling on it . Like the success it was spelled as sucess
I bought this book to sharpen my skills prior to taming the teas and Ive found multiple mistakes in the math section. I wonder home many students got questions incorrect thanks to this. This book should be listed under birdcage floor liner.
Do not buy this study guide. Yes it is by ATI but if offers no explanations to the subjects that are covered on the test. It briefly goes over the 4 areas with little detail and it says, "You should study this part more" but it does not explain the topic in many words. I bought this book and only scored a 77% on the test. My goal was at least an 85%. I did improve slightly from the first time I took the Teas but definitely not as much as I wanted too. If you want to get a good score on the Teas buy the mometrix study guide for the Teas 6. It explains the test in a much better way with more information.
You are better off reading/memorizing Version 5 ATI Manual (cover to cover), watching/memorizing videos on youtube that breakdown some of the difficult concepts AND investing in the Teas tests that are available on the actual ATI testing website. For those of you that think you are proficient in these subjects because you "got good grades in school", the TEAS test questions are confusing and not straight forward so make sure you understand the way that the TEAS study guide describes and words all of these concepts and get used to the way they ask questions, although they are much easier and straightforward than the actual test (which i think is SO unfair and misleading. SHAME ON YOU,ATI!). This is a test on how you take the TEAS test, not necessarily about how much you know. Good Luck!
This manual will definitely guide you as to what topics you need to study in order to do well on the TEAS. However, it does not go into much detail so you will need a supplemental study guide to use in conjunction with it. There are many instances where it instructs you to utilize the Internet and textbooks for more information. Whatever additional material you use make sure it references the topics from this book with plenty of detailed examples along with practice tests that mirror the actual TEAS (number of test questions and time limit). I used the Mometrix study guide. This strategy helped me earn great scores.
